Mahoe Dairies already had an exceptional culture. Through brand strategy, identity and storytelling, we gave that culture a voice - helping attract great people, strengthen community pride, and unify a team around shared values.

WHERE THEY WERE

The Heenan family had spent more than 100 years building an exceptional farming business in Northern Southland.

Three dairy farms. 1,800 cows. A multicultural team of Chilean and Filipino families raising children, progressing through careers, and putting down roots.

This wasn't a transient workforce.

It was a community.

What they needed was a brand that made that visible.

THE STRATEGIC INSIGHT

We discovered the real opportunity wasn't attracting people - it was giving people something to belong to.

The culture wasn't ours to invent. It was already there. Our role was to uncover what made it distinctive and build a brand that could communicate it consistently - to the people already part of Mahoe, those considering joining, and the wider community.

THE STRATEGIC DECISION

Build a brand people could choose before they ever visited the farm.

Every creative decision flowed from one idea: people first.

The identity became more than a logo - it became a signal of trust for prospective employees, suppliers and the wider community. The website told human stories before production statistics, and every visual touchpoint reinforced the values already being lived on the farm.

BRINGING STRATEGY TO LIFE

Rather than creating isolated design assets, we built a complete brand ecosystem.

  • Documentary photography celebrating the real Mahoe team

  • A values framework integrated into onboarding and staff culture

  • Vehicle signage and apparel that built pride in the workplace

  • A digital presence centred on people, family and community

Every touchpoint was designed to answer one simple question:

Would someone want to belong here?

WHAT CHANGED

100% STAFF RETENTION

Since introducing the brand strategy and values framework, Mahoe has retained every member of its team.

A CULTURE PEOPLE RECOGNISE

The values developed through the strategy process are now lived daily across the business—not simply displayed on a wall.

COMMUNITY PRIDE

From local rugby jerseys to everyday conversations, the Mahoe identity has become a brand the family, team and wider community are genuinely proud to wear.

A STRONGER EMPLOYER BRAND

Prospective employees can now discover Mahoe online and immediately understand the people, culture and values behind the business.

This project was delivered through the Grounded to Groundbreaking™ brand strategy framework - creating one strategic foundation that shaped culture, community and every touchpoint.

“From the outset, Farmers Daughter took the time to understand both our history and our vision for the future. They achieved the balance between heritage and modernity beautifully, resulting in a brand that feels true to who we are and where we've come from.”
